A shrub, dioecious, the branchlets glabrous with stout prickles, the prickles 2 cm long, with a broad flatten base.
Leaves imparipinnate; leaflets 1–3 pairs, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 3–12 cm long, acuminate at apex, acute or obtuse at base, subsessile, the terminal one largest, the margins finely serrulate, glabrous, the midrib impressed above, elevated beneath, the lateral veins 6–7 on each side of the midrib with pellucid glands on margins; rachis and petioles broadly winged.
Inflorescence a nearly sessile axillary raceme, 3–4 cm long; flowers yellowish.
Fruit of 4–5 carpels, about 5 mm long, red, warty, with 2 seeds; seeds black, shining.
